A home server running my own cloud — media, file storage, home automation, and DNS. Everything is infrastructure-as-code: I edit a config, commit, and push; a CI runner picks it up and deploys it. The entire stack rebuilds from git, so nothing lives only in my head.

Senior Software Developer

Trade Shield Sep 2024 — Present
  • Built the debtor change orchestration system — a cross-team observability feature that audits business-process events and raises alerts, cutting client queries about where risk scores sat in the system by 64%.
  • Partnered with the CTO to build a custom event-driven orchestration microservice (à la MassTransit) using three-phase commits, event streams with slowly-changing dimensions, and the outbox pattern — supporting trade-credit recommendations worth nearly 7% of South Africa's GDP.
  • Led the technical split from a partner company, standing up independent Azure infrastructure (new tenant, CI/CD pipelines, VMs) using the Strangler Fig and facade patterns.
  • Turned black-box Python risk-scoring services into observable, event-driven FastAPI services with CI/CD; introduced team standards, PR templates, and Roslyn static analysis, and mentored junior and intermediate developers.

  • Full-stack engineer (Angular + .NET Core) on Ninety One's investment platform, building micro-services and APIs for regulatory compliance, investment calculations and transactions on Microsoft Service Fabric.
  • Upgraded .NET 6 APIs and an Azure Function App to .NET 8, migrating the Function App from the in-process to the isolated worker model.
  • Built REST API endpoints and RxJS-driven Angular components that cut rejection rates of investment transactions, and shipped a manual-instruction submission feature using Azure Service Bus and Function Apps.
  • Resolved time-critical production issues in Azure CosmosDB and Function Apps, and mentored junior engineers on SOLID principles and best practices.

  • Enabled the milestone launch of EasyEquities' pension-fund platform, RISE, delivering full-stack features end to end.
  • Built an automated SignalR / NServiceBus / SQL Server pipeline to bulk-load thousands of members onto the system.
  • Wrote SQL Server stored procedures to transform SARS data, automating tax-form submission for claim withdrawals.
  • Improved code coverage with NUnit and Moq, and resolved production issues via Azure App Insights.
